Here’s a collection of dilution ratio calculation methods for various situations like diluting car shampoo for washing, cleaning detergents for housekeeping, pesticides for gardening, and plant nutrients for potted plants.
Calculating Water Amount from Solution Amount
“I have 30ml of solution – how much water should I add?”
Water Amount = (Solution Amount × Water Ratio) ÷ Solution Ratio
Example) For 1:200 dilution ratio with 30ml solution:
Water Amount = (30 × 200) ÷ 1 = 6000ml
Calculating Solution Amount from Water Amount
“I have 6L of water in my container – how much solution should I add?”
Solution Amount = (Water Amount × Solution Ratio) ÷ Water Ratio
Example) For 1:200 dilution ratio with 6000ml water:
Solution Amount = (6000 × 1) ÷ 200 = 30ml
Calculating from Total Volume
“How much of each should I use to make 6030ml total?”
Solution Amount = Total Volume × (Solution Ratio ÷ (Solution Ratio + Water Ratio))
Water Amount = Total Volume × (Water Ratio ÷ (Solution Ratio + Water Ratio))
Example) For 1:200 dilution ratio with 6030ml total volume:
- Solution = 6030 × (1 ÷ 201) = 30ml
- Water = 6030 × (200 ÷ 201) = 6000ml
